In 2025, the University of Lisbon was once again ranked among the 300 best universities in the world, a position it has held since 2021.
The ranking evaluates more than 2,500 higher education institutions worldwide and lists the 1,000 best, based on criteria such as research quality, Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals awarded to former students or teachers, articles published in leading scientific journals (Nature and Sciences), citations from publications indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and in the Social Science Citation Index, and the University's per capita academic performance.
