Copyright and Legal Terms


The contents, whatever their nature, namely but not limited to, texts, images, drawings, phonograms, videograms, as well as brands, logos, names and denominations, present in the Portal of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Ciências), are protected by the legislation in force, in matters of intellectual property and industrial property, namely the Copyright and Related Rights Code, published in an annex to Decree-Law no. 63/85, of 14 March, the Industrial Property Code, published in an annex to Decree-Law no. 36/2003, of 5 March, and also the regulations in force at the University of Lisbon, namely the Intellectual Property Regulation, published in an annex to Order no. 873/2015, of 28 January.

The said contents may not be edited, published, disseminated, reproduced by any means, in whole or in part, and may not be downloaded or copied without the prior and express written consent of the legal representatives of Ciências and/or the other holders of the rights in question.

Prior authorisation is also required from Ciências, or from the other owners of the rights identified in the Portal, so that the contents, in whole or in part, can be modified, adapted or extracted for other uses.

The use of such content for journalistic purposes is allowed, in which case the reproduction or dissemination should refer to as the source of the information.

The situations of free use provided for in the Copyright and Related Rights Code and other Portuguese legislation are also excepted.

Unauthorised use makes the perpetrator liable to civil and criminal penalties and disciplinary action, if applicable.

Legal Terms


Ciências is not responsible for any inaccuracies in the information or documentation existing on the Portal, for any content introduced in an illicit manner, or for the possible illegality of the content of the pages to which the links or hyperlinks contained therein refer.

Ciências hosts a wide range of scientific dissemination websites adopting a policy of individual accountability of their authors for their content. Any complaints or comments on their contents should be addressed to their authors.

Contributors to the websites hosted on the Portal of Ciências must adhere to the Electronic Science Publication Regulations and refrain from publishing content that, by its nature, may be considered offensive, discriminatory, obscene, defamatory, inaccurate or illicit.

User data

Ciências collects information on registered accesses to the Portal of Ciências, which it shares with visit information managers and can use for statistical purposes, in a completely anonymised way. Ciências complies with the technical and administrative measures appropriate to the protection of the Portal users' data, keeping confidential the information regarding personal or academic data of its users, as well as the personalised information of their accesses, unless otherwise required by law.

By accessing and using the Portal of Ciências, the user accepts these terms and conditions of use.
