Minor
History and Philosophy of Science
The Minor in History and Philosophy of Science (HFC) is unique in Portugal. It aims to complement the training acquired by students in their chosen major. It does so by offering both general education subjects and cross-disciplinary subjects. It offers a historical reflection on the past of science and the philosophical assumptions underlying the various conceptions of science proposed over time. It provides an analysis of the dynamic relationship between science and other areas of knowledge and also provides an understanding of the specific characteristics of Science and Technology in Portugal, both in historical terms and in terms of contemporary analysis.
The Minor in HFC offers a critical reading of the current position of science in its multiple relationships with society. It is therefore a unique complement to any specialised scientific training.
