Sumário: Na última metade do século 20, o advento da Tomografia por Emissão de Positrões (PET) e da Ressonância Magnética Nuclear (RMN) revolucionaram a imagem médica in vivo.

A PET tornou-se uma valiosa ferramenta de investigação tendo migrado rapidamente para a clínica, sendo sido seguida pela RMN alguns anos depois.

Optical simulation of the human eye for laser dazzle events

Abstract: The development of optical models of the human eye and their implementation in optical design software creates effective ways to simulate the eye’s behavior under different conditions and to introduce and analyze the effect of other optical elements. This potentially helps us to develop new optical techniques for studying the eye as well as to simulate more complex situations such as laser dazzle.

Granular morphogenesis: from astrophysics to biophysics

Abstract: Granular flows are encountered in applications ranging from engineering to astrophysics to biology. In many of these applications, grains spontaneously and unexpectedly form well defined morphologies. In this talk, I will describe a few examples, including the separation of sand and boulders on near earth asteroids, and the emergence of structured patterns in biological cells.
