How much is the tuition fee, annually?

  • For 1st Cycle (Bachelor) course: 7.000,00€/Year.
     
  • For 2nd Cycle (Master) course: 7.000,00€/Year.

How can I get information on the courses that will open and the number of places?

In the International Student's Public Notice for 1st Cycle (Bachelor Degree) are referred the available courses and correspondent places.

In the International Student’s Public Notice for 2nd Cycle (Master Degree) are referred the available courses and correspondent places.

In the International Student’s Public Notice for 3rd Cycle (PhD Degree) are referred the available courses and correspondent places. 

 

Which are the application deadlines?

1st Cycle (Bachelor Degree) 2024/2025:
1st period of applications: 02 January - 09 February 2024
2nd period of applications: 03 April - 24 May 2024

2nd Cycle (Master Degree) 2024/2025:
1st period of applications: 18 March - 26 April 2024
2nd period of applications: 24 June - 29 July 2024

3rd Cycle (PhD Degree) 2023/2024:
1st period of applications: 17 July - 11 August 2023
2nd period of applications: 02 November - 15 December 2023
3rd period of applications: 01 April - 30 April 2024

 

Which are the documents to attach to the application?

1st Cycle (Bachelor Degree)

  • Identification document (Passport, Identity Card. Optional or when authorized simple photocopy of document);
  • A sworn declaration stating that the candidate is neither of Portuguese nationality, nor is included in any of the special conditions that do not confirm their status as an international student, according to the International Student Statute;
  • A declaration confirming the completion of Portuguese Secondary education or equivalent, or, if the academic qualification does not correspond with that of Portuguese secondary education, a confirmatory document which allows admission into higher education by the country in which it was obtained, duly validated by the competent entity/institution of this country, in accordance with current legislation 1;
  • Document confirming final grades achieved in Portuguese secondary education, or the equivalent, indicating the level of classification 1;
  • Document proving the approval in the admission exams defined in Portugal for the course of applying, or document proving that the school education obtained approval in the final exams/curricular components that integrate the knowledge by the admission exams defined in Portugal. (The admission exams must have been approved in the calendar year or in the 3 calendar years before the application) 1;
  • Elementary Diploma of Portuguese Foreign Language (DEPLE) or a certificate issued by a ULisboa school stating B1 Level, or a declaration of B1 level in Portuguese language and culture, if the candidate did not attend secondary education in Portuguese;
  • A document confirming attendance in higher education, a certificate stating the grades obtained in the accomplished subjects, a study program from the course of origin and Syllabus and workload of the concluded subjects (only for Students applying from International Establishments of Higher Education) 1;
  • Curriculum Vitae (short).

The documents must be issued by the competent authority of the country where the qualifications were obtained and when issued by institutions from non-Community countries must be certified by the Portuguese consular services or be presented with the Apostille (Hague Convention) by the competent authority of the state from which the documents are originated. When these documents are not in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, they must be translated into one of these languages.

 

2nd Cycle (Master Degree)

  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Degree Diploma;
  • Grades Certificate;
  • Grades Programmes (stamped and signed by the institution of higher education) - only for applicants whose degree or legal equivalent is from a foreign institution outside of European Union countries;
  • Sworn Statement (declaration on honour and signed by the applicant, stating that she/he has not the Portuguese nationality and is not included in any of the special conditions which confirm the International Student Status, according to the International Student Statute, approved by legislation (artigo 3.º do Decreto-Lei n.º 62/2018 de 06 de agosto) - Draft;
  • Identification document: Passport, Identity Card (optional or when authorized simple photocopy of document);
  • Motivation letter;
  • Declaration, stating the acknowledgment of the degree and the Higher Education Institution, (issued by DGES in Portugal - only apply to candidates whose Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is from a foreign institution outside of European Union countries);
  • Proof of knowledge of English or Portuguese language (if applicable) - Certificate of achievement of English / Portuguese course or declaration of attendance of higher education course taught in English / Portuguese.

Attention: The Certificates/Diploma must be issued by the competent authority of the country where the qualifications were obtained and when issued by institutions from non-Community countries must be certified by the Portuguese consular services or be presented with the Apostille (Hague Convention) by the competent authority of the state from which the documents are originated. When these documents are not in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, they must be translated into one of these languages (validated by the consular or embassy services).

 

3rd Cycle (PhD Degree)

  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Degree Diploma 1;
  • Legal equivalence of a Master's and/or Bachelor's degree (for applicants whose degree has been obtained in a foreign institution)2;
  • Grades Certificate1;
  • Grades Programmes (Certificate of Syllabus and Workload of the concluded subjects stamped and signed by the institution of higher education) if requested by the coordinator of the course;
  • Sworn Statement (declaration of honor and signed by the applicant, stating that the candidate has not the Portuguese nationality and is not included in any of the special conditions which confirm the International Student Status, according to the International Student Statute, approved by legislation (Decree-Law no. 62/2018 from 06th August, article no. 3) - Draft;
  • Cover letter;
  • Proof of knowledge of english or portuguese language (if applicable);
  • Work plan indicating the general objectives to be achieved - optional;
  • Guidance acceptance Statement(s) of supervisor(s);
  • Passport or International Identity Card - optional;
  • Declaration, issued by the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Services, authorizing legal permanence in Portugal (this document should be sent or delivered until the day of registration/enrollment).

1 Attention: The Certificates/Diploma must by certified by the Portuguese consular service or be presented with the Apostille (Hague Convention) by the competent authority of the state from which the documents are originated, and whenever they are not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, they must be translated into one of these languages (validated by the consular or embassy services).
2 The recognition of qualifications provided for in Decree-Law no. 66/2018, from 16th of August, as well as the degrees recognized or that have already been considered equivalents by the previous legislation (Decree-Law no. 283/83 from 21st June, and Decree-law no. 341/2007 from 12th October).

The original documents of the Diploma/certificates must be presented in the registration/enrollment as well the identification card or passport.

Applicants for the PhD in Cognitive Science must consult the course's Webpage and its Public Notice.

 

 

How much is the application fee?

The Application Fee is €60, 00. 
If you submit more than one application, the amount for each additional application will be €60, 00.

 

How to submit the application?

The whole procedure is online. You must fill in the form and submit it with the required documents duly scanned and uploaded.

 

Is it possible to submit the application without a document?

Applications without the required documents will not be accepted. (Please consult the International Student’s Public Notice).

 

How can I pay the application fee?

The payment of the application fee can be done in two different ways:

1st cycle

  • Bank transfer - for applicants who does not have a Portuguese bank account and does not live in Portugal(applicant must submit the payment proof in the application form);
  • ATM Payment (SIBS) - the payment is only possible for applicants with a Portuguese bank account.

2nd cycle and 3rd cycle

  • Bank transfer - applicant must submit the payment proof in the application form.

 Payments must be made during the respective application Period.

 

Can I pay the application fee after submitting the application?

The payment of the application fee is done after submit the application. 

 

Can the application fee be reimbursed?

1st cycle

  • The application fee cannot be reimbursed.

2nd cycle and 3rd cycle

  • The application fee is non-refundable. It is returned only in case the course does not take place due to insufficient number of candidates.

 

Can I apply to more than one 1st Cycle (Bachelor Degree)?

Applicants can choose one or more coursesany available course, as long as they prove, through a Secondary Education conclusion Certificate (or equivalent), that they are eligible and have the admission exams to the course they are applying for. 

Applicants that have applied to more than one course, and have been accepted in both of them, must inform the Undegraduate Studies Area (ua@ciencias.ulisboa.pt), as soon as the results are public, of the course they intend to register/enroll. If our services do not get this information in time both applications will be rejected.

 

How can I consult the applications results?

The application results will be available online at FCUL webpage.

 

What are the procedures regarding the payment of the deposit?

As defined in the International Student’s Public Notice, for 1st Cycle (Bachelor) and 2nd Cycle/Master course applicants, after the result’s outcome, the applicants admitted in the 1st and 2nd Period must pay the deposit (€500,00), as requested.

After this payment the applicant must send the proof of payment to faturacao.alunos@ciencias.ulisboa.pt for 1st Cycle or candidatura-pg@ciencias.ulisboa.pt for 2nd Cycle, referring the full name of Student applying.

Deadlines:

Applicants admitted to the 1st and 2nd period: the deposit fee must be paid within a continuous period of no more than 5 days following the publication of the results of each application period.
