GAPSi - the Psychological Support Office - was officially created in 1997. Its main function is to provide psycho-pedagogical and/or psychotherapeutic support to all those in the community who seek specialised support, as well as promoting psychological well-being and academic achievement.
The office provide a set of services such as:
- Clinical Psychology
- Vocational Orientation
- Support to the students with Special Educational Needs
- Training Courses (i.g., lectures, workshops, support programme to PhD students)
- Organization of programs of reception and adaptation to the Faculty
- Course units in the areas of personal development and transversal competences
- Providing self-help materials (e.g. “Chá do Dia” texts and podcasts on topics that seek to promote self-knowledge and psychoeducation)
The office operates in accordance with the ethical standards of psychology and professional secrecy is guaranteed.

Implementation of the PAF project (Adapting to College Life Programme)
PAF is a mentoring project that aims to welcome and integrate new students at Ciências.
Program “Learning to learn”
The program is addressed to students of the 1st cycle of studies. Its aim is to promote the awareness of the factors that influence academic success and get effective strategies to accomplish that.
Ph.D. - Final Countdown Program
PhD - Final Countdown is a programme that seeks to meet the needs experienced by students with difficulties in completing their doctorate.
Implementation of the Volunteer Programme which frames the work of Ciências students in supporting colleagues with Special Educational Needs.
Carrying out applied research projects with the aim of validating and optimising the intervention provided by the service.
