How do I get more information about which courses are open, the qualifications required to apply and the number of places?

The Faculty of Sciences’ website has all the relevant information regarding which courses are running as well as their respective course objectives, areas of specialisation, scientific coordinators, required qualifications, places, fees, general regulatory rules, contact information and responsible entities.

Which type of CV is preferred for my application?

The candidate can send the comprehensive or summarised version of their CV provided that it mentions their professional and academic qualifications and training.

Do I have to send the original copies of my Grade Certificates and Certificate of Completion of Degree?

Candidates must not send the original copies of their certificate(s). However, during the enrolment process they must prove they have the original documents in person alongside the FCUL Postgraduate Studies Area, to confirm the authenticity of the scanned document(s) sent as part of the application.

What should my cover letter contain?

It should refer clearly and succinctly the reasons for applying to the course.

What is the application process for students who have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a foreign institution (Outside of the EU)?

Candidates whose Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is from a foreign institution (outside of the EU), must send all required Certificates/Diploma certified by the Portuguese consular services or be presented with the Apostille (Hague Convention) by the competent authority of the state from which the documents originate. Whenever the certificates or diploma are not originally published in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish, they must be translated into one of these languages.

Can final year undergraduates apply for a Postgraduate course?

In the first application period, final year students can apply for all the courses they wish to attend as long as they complete their degree according to the dates set in Conditional Applications.

How do I submit my application?

The whole procedure is completed online. You must fill in the form and submit it with the required documents duly scanned and uploaded - please read the application guide.

Is it possible to submit an application without all the requested documents?

Applications which do not have all the necessary documents attached to them will not be accepted. This excludes final year undergraduate students who are about to complete their degree, who have specific deadlines to submit their certificate or documentary evidence of completing their degree - please read the application guide.

How much is the application fee?

The application fee is a fixed fee of €40.00 for your first application. If you submit more than one application, each subsequent application will cost an additional €20.00.

How can I pay the application fee?

The payment of the application fee must be done once you have received the corresponding email sent by the Postgraduate Studies Area. The payment can be made in two different ways:

  • ATM reference;
  • Bank transfer by ATMs, Internet or any Banking Agency.

If you intend to pay the application fee via bank transfer, then you must submit your proof of payment with the application.

Payments must be made during the respective application period and immediately after submitting it (payments will not be accepted during the 1st period to pay for applications submitted in the 2nd period).

Please read the application guide.

Can I pay the application fee after submitting the application?

Applications will not be accepted without the payment of the application fee - €40.00 for your first application. If you submit more than one application, each subsequent application will cost an additional €20.00.

Is the application fee refundable?

The application fee is non-refundable. If a particular course is cancelled that year due to an insufficient amount of candidates, then the application fee will be reimbursed.

What are the procedures regarding the payment of the deposit?

After being informed of their admission, admitted candidates are required to pay a deposit of €65.00, failing which they will lose their place on the course to which they have been admitted.

Once this payment has been made, the amount paid as a deposit will revert to the payments due, following admission, for enrolment/registration on the respective postgraduate course.

Deadlines for the payment of the deposit:

Applicants admitted in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd period: payment of the deposit fee must be made within a continuous period of no more than 2 days following the publication of the results of each application period.
