Can we observe deep water eddies at the sea-surface with remote sensing data?

5a-feira, das 12h às 13h, na sala C8.2.47

Mediterranean water eddies in the Atlantic (Meddies) are long-living intermediate water eddies spreading long distances across the Atlantic ocean at the depths of about 1000m. Although their cores are found rather deep in the water column, Meddies often form pronounced signatures at the sea-surface. During the presentation we will discuss practical and theoretical issues for identification and tracking of the intermediate water eddies with remote sensing data.
