Assessment and Certificates

FCUL Assessment Regulations (Resolution No. 2284/2013, of 4 December, as amended by Resolution No. 1279/220, of 24 December, includes the concepts, rules and regulations regarding assessment, attendance regime and status and assessment modalities (ongoing, periodic, by means of examinations or tests and final exam).

The final assessment consists of a written in loco examination, subject to registration during the examination periods at the end of the academic semester. The exam includes all taught material. 

 

1st Examination Period (regular) and 2nd Examination Period (supplementary)

During the examination periods there are, for each course unit taught in the previous semester, two exam dates corresponding to the two examination periods. The dates of the regular and supplementary periods must have a time interval of at least 10 days. All students may take an exam on both dates.

To be admitted to the examination, students have to register online until 0 am of the working day immediately prior to the examination date as set in the Examination Calendar

 

Resit Exams

Students my resit exams in the same year they were enrolled in the course unit or in the following academic year, and may resit the exam only once. For those who passed the exam during the 1st examination period, the 2nd examination period is for grade improvement.

Taking a resit exam in the following academic year requires previous registration and the payment of a fee for each examination as listed in the Fee List.

Grade Improvement Registration

Students may submit the application for Grade Improvement (only in the school year following the approval) via Fénix, in the student's personal area at Aluno - Inscrever - Avaliações/Exames:

  1. choose the year/semester;
  2. click on “Inscrição em melhorias”;
  3. choose the desired curricular unit and the evaluation period;
  4. click on “Inscrever”;
  5. see payment details at “Visualizar Conta”;
  6. pay the respective fee.

Please note that:

  • The process will be rejected if the student fails to make payment;
  • The process will only be completed when the status is “Inscrito”.

 

Special Examination Period

Students enjoying special status may take exams during the special examination period, which takes place at the end of the academic year.

According to Ordinance D/13/2019, special examination period exams may be carried out by students who lack a maximum of two course units in order to obtain the Degree (Licenciado / Mestre), for the completion of the Master's course (school part), the PhD course (school part) or Non-Awarding Degree Programmes.

Taking an examination during the special period requires previous registration and the payment of a fee for each examination as listed in the Fee List.

Special Examination Period Registration (in accordance with the existing deadlines)

Students can apply for a Special Examination Period (if they meet the conditions for registration) via Fénix, in the student's personal area at Aluno - Inscrever - Avaliações/Exames:

  1. choose the year/semester;
  2. choose the desired curricular unit and the evaluation period “Época Especial”;
  3. click on “Inscrever”;
  4. wait for the services to validate the registration (“Pedido em Validação pelos Serviços”);
  5. check whether the application has already progressed to the status “A Aguardar Pagamento”;
  6. see payment details at “Visualizar Conta”;
  7. pay the respective fee.

Please note that:

  • The process will be rejected if the student fails to make payment ("Inscrição Rejeitada por falta de pagamento");
  • The process will only be completed when the status is “Inscrito”.
