The Byzantine State Machine Replication (SMR) approach enables the implementation of fault-tolerant services by replicating the execution of the same requests into multiple machines. Even though SMR guarantees the availability and integrity of the service despite fraction machines being controlled by an adversary, it fails to ensure confidentiality of the stored data since a single compromised server can reveal all the stored data in the service. In my seminar, I will present COBRA, a confidentiality layer for the SMR model that can efficiently handle many data items during the recovery of faulty servers and reconfiguration of the system.
