SPECIFIC PLAN FOR THE CONTROL OF ACCIDENTS WITH HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
In the event of an accident involving the spillage of hazardous substances in the laboratory, any member of the Ciências ULisboa community must act in accordance with the General Safety Instructions.
In the event of a spill, the Specific Plan for the Control of Accidents with Hazardous Substances (available only to authenticated Ciências users) should be activated by contacting the Science emergency number (20000 or +351 217 500 600) and proceeding as follows:
- Check the safety conditions and always remain in a safe place;
- Locate a colleague and ask him or her to accompany him/her, whenever possible;
- Try to contain/control the spill by making a barrier with a cloth/absorbent paper or other means of first intervention available on site, WITHOUT EVER TAKING RISKS;
- If the means to stop the spill run out, or if they do not work, combustible materials shall, if possible, be removed from the vicinity of the spill;
- If conditions worsen and you have to leave the area, you should close all the doors you can;
- When leaving the place, do not use the elevators, move around the stairs.
