Biological Safety Committee of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CSB.C)
The CSB.C aims to promote the implementation of general principles of good microbiological practices, hygiene, and workplace safety, as well as containment measures and other protective actions appropriate for activities involving the confined use of Genetically Modified Microorganisms (GMM) and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). These guidelines are designed to protect human health and the environment, ensuring a high level of safety, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 55/2015, of April 17, in its current version.
To this end, the following documents have been prepared and must be read, understood, applied, and enforced by all individuals involved in confined-use operations of GMM/GMO, including laboratory/facility managers and technicians, faculty members, researchers, grant holders, collaborators, students, and visitors:
- Biological Safety Manual at CIÊNCIAS
- Biological Emergency Plan at CIÊNCIAS
- Operational Instruction 7 – Cleaning Procedures
- Operational Instruction 8 – Disinfection Quality Control Procedures
These documents are available in the shared folder on CIRRUS, and on Confined Use Operations of GMM/GMO reading them is mandatory for everyone to whom these procedures apply, whether occasionally or on a regular basis.
Adopting these practices is not only a legal requirement, where non-compliance may result in significant fines, but above all, it is a shared responsibility to ensure the safety of all.
