Larvas de peixe num mundo acidificado

Uma das consequências do crescente aumento das emissões de dióxido de carbono (CO2) para a atmosfera é a acidificação dos oceanos, com consequências para os ecossistemas marinhos e, nomeadamente, para a vida dos peixes. As fases de desenvolvimento iniciais são particularmente susceptíveis às alterações que ocorrem no meio envolvente. Estudos recentes, com espécies tropicais, revelam que a exposição a elevados níveis de CO2, durante a fase larvar dos peixes, provoca perturbações de comportamento e desenvolvimento, tornando-os, por exemplo, mais vulneráveis a ataques de predadores, aumentando o risco de sobrevivência. Irei apresentar alguns dos principais resultados de um projeto que visou avaliar os impactos da exposição a condições de acidificação no desenvolvimento e comportamento de larvas de peixe de espécies do litoral português.
