Alfred Wegener was the first to propose that all continents were once gathered in one colossal supercontinent, Pangaea. One major quest today is how will the next supercontinent form? Will the Atlantic close to reunite Pangaea? Will the Pacific continue to close? Here, we review some of the main proposed scenarios for the tectonic evolution of Earth and explore a completely new scenario in which the Atlantic and the Pacific close simultaneously to form a new supercontinent named Aurica.
