The No-Bell Physics Prize 2022: presences and absences

At the end of the second decade of the last century, the discussion on the nature of Quantum Mechanics occupied central stage, with Einstein and Bohr as leading actors. Then it moved into the side lines, such was its success atomic physics. "Shut up and calculate" became the dominant paradigm in the community. Einstein stayed unconvinced, but when in 1935 he proposed, with Podolsky and Rosen, a new challenge - the EPR gedanken experiment -, most physicists delegated the answer to Bohr and considered the matter closed. Not so John Bell, who in the sixties gave a crucial impulse to the discussion by shifting it to the field of experiment. Without him the 2022 Nobel prize in Physics would have been different.

The objective of this course is to acquire knowledge regarding bioinformatic tools available to predict nucleic acid (RNA, DNA or Nucleic Acids Mimics) and protein three-dimensional structure, as well as autonomy and critical thinking in the use of those tools.

Science is increasingly more present in our everyday decisions, with a fundamental role in global problems. Scientists, as the main actors in the production of scientific knowledge, have the responsibility of having an active voice in communicating this knowledge.

The course aims at introducing attendants to an updated state of the art of diversity of the soil biota and the functional roles played by soil organisms in key ecological processes.

The objective of this course is to provide participants with basic knowledge on a) the fundamental aspects of experimental design and b) workflows, platforms and tools to increase reproducibility at all scientific levels.

In this course we will provide advanced hands-on training on some of the most used technological tools in field biology.

The course aims at enabling the participants to use different methods to measure the impacts of pollutants on ecosystems. Basic knowledge will be provided through theoretical and practical lessons on how to select and use the most suitable metrics based on the analysis of multiple compartments of the ecosystems.

This course offers an overview of the different ways to measure biodiversity, and provides tips for the stratification of primary biodiversity data and the construction of variables that describe its various facets. It also includes an in-depth review of the different types of data used to measure biodiversity and their problems and limitations.
