In the context of having just joined BioISI, this talk will be a quick introduction to my research interests and background, as well as the agreed work plan at the institute. I will present examples of dynamic modelling work, and of genetic data mining aimed at the discovery of vaccine targets. I will finish with an introduction to climate-driven suitability measures for mosquito-borne viruses and preliminary work on the epidemiology of West Nile virus in Portugal, which are both the basis of the agreed work plan at BioISI.
