The Quality Infrastructure of a country comprises an ecosystem of bodies responsible for Metrology, Standardization, and Testing activities with the aim of establishing and promoting standards. The Quality Infrastructure plays a fundamental role for national and international Commerce, for the development of Industries and Sectors, and for the well-being of society, as it promotes confidence in the technical and metrological characteristics of products, processes, services, and technical skills. While "traditional" sectors related to Physical, Chemical, and Biological Metrology have benefited from the Quality Infrastructure, the Information Technology (IT) sector has only recently begun to explore the challenges and potential benefits of using a Quality Infrastructure. In this lecture, we discuss some of these issues and present research projects derived from them, highlighting the following two issues:
- how to establish conformity assessment models for cyber products;
- how to establish metrics to assess the competence of software analysis labs.
Bio: Raphael Machado is a researcher in the Brazilian National Institute of Metrology Quality and Technology and is a Professor at the Fluminense Federal University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computers and Systems Engineering from the Rio de Janeiro Federal University in 2010. Raphael published more than 150 papers in refereed journals and conferences and served in the program committee and organizing committee of several conferences, including ACM/ISSISP, RECOMB-CG, IEEE MetroInd, and IEEE MetroSea. He holds the grant “Rio de Janeiro Young Scientist” from the FAPERJ Rio de Janeiro research agency and the grant “Research Productivity PQ-1D” from the CNPq Brazilian research agency.
