Logic and Explainable AI in the Legal Domain

In spite of the huge increase in the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in nearly all areas of everyday life, applications to the legal domain are surprisingly absent. This is due to the fact that most current AI systems are black-box constructions, which are incompatible with the ethical requirements underlying most western legal systems. In this talk we discuss this problem and introduce our project on building an expert system within the legal domain based on logical techniques.
