Denis Ribouillault is Professor of Early Modern Art History and Graduate Program Director at the Université de Montréal, Canada, specializing in cultural landscape and garden studies. He has been a fellow at the Villa Medici-Académie de France in Rome, at Villa I Tatti (Harvard Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence) and Dumbarton Oaks (Harvard, Washington D.C.). He is the author of numerous articles and a monograph on the villas and gardens of Renaissance Rome (Rome en ses jardins. Paysage et pouvoir au XVIe siècle, Paris, INHA-CTHS, 2013). He has published two volumes of essays (both with Leo S. Olschki): Sacred Landscape. Landscape as Exegesis in Early Modern Europe (2011, co-authored with Michel Weemans) and De la peinture au jardin (2016, co-authored with Hervé Brunon). He is currently preparing several monographs and edited books, including Gardens and Academies in Early Modern Italy and Beyond (Leiden, Brill) and The Villa Barbaro at Maser. Science, Philosophy and the Family in Venetian Renaissance Art (London, Harvey Miller).
