Source and compositional variability of granites: Insights from the petrogenetic study of the Macao granitic suite (South China)

Por Pedro Quelhas (University of Saint Joseph, Macau).

Granites are major components of the continental crust and their petrological/geochemical study is thus fundamental to understand the origin and evolution of this terrestrial reservoir. The geochemistry of granites can provide important information about their sources, the magmatic processes that control their chemical variability and even about the tectonic settings in which they are generated. In this talk, we will see how the petrogenesis of the Macao granitic suite (located in South China) offers an opportunity to improve our understanding of the causes of compositional variability in granitic magmas, while providing important clues on the tectono-magmatic evolution of one of the largest granitic provinces in the world – the Southeast China Magmatic Belt.
