Neural Model Compression: ongoing work

Abstract: In this presentation I will talk about my ongoing work on neural model compression, a topic that attracted my interest recently, and as a way of my presentation to DI/FCUL, given this is my first talk since my joining the department, I will touch also on some past results, including machine translation and semantic alignment of multilingual texts, which was a major subject I have been working.

Bio: Luís Gomes is a Researcher of the Department of Informatics, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, working at the Natural Language and Speech Group (NLX). He is doing research on AI / Natural Language Processing. He is acting also as a Research Engineer in PORTULAN CLARIN Research Infrastructure for the Science and Technology of Language, where he is the Chief Technical Officer, being responsible for the development, deployment and maintenance of the software stack of the infrastructure, while coordinating and tutoring a team of developers.
Luís Gomes received his PhD in Informatics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2017 for his research in AI/NLP on the topic of translation alignment and bilingual lexica extraction. He participated in three funded projects on machine translation and was a founding partner in a start up company devoted to machine translation.
