Abstract: Compliance with the FAIR data principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability) is increasingly demanded across the scientific landscape, from funding agencies to journals, and even within research institutions. This is particularly challenging in the plant sciences, due to the complexity and heterogeneity of experiments in this domain, as well as the lack of centralized data repositories (other than for sequencing data).

Over the past five years, the BioData.pt Plant Sciences Community, in collaboration with its broader ELIXIR homonym, has endeavoured to develop tools and resources to enable the production of FAIR plant data, with particular focus on genomic and phenotyping data. Of note are the standard Minimum Information About a Plant Phenotyping Experiment and its incorporation in BioData.pt’s Data Management Portal, the Breeding API, the CorkOakDB genome portal, and the sRNA portal.

In this webinar, we will overview the past, present and future activities of the BioData.pt Plant Sciences Community, showcase some of its more impactful resources, and discuss the hurdles that still need to be tackled for FAIR plant data to become a widespread reality.
