Searching Encrypted Data in the Cloud and the Quest for Practical Security

Abstract: Searchable Encryption is a field of research that deals with the problem of how to search and update an encrypted database stored in a remote, untrusted server. In this talk I will present the topic and discuss results that I have achieved in the last few years.

Bio: Bernardo Ferreira is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, and an integrated researcher at LASIGE. Previously he was a Post-Doc researcher at the NOVA LINCS research center, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Nova University of Lisbon, working with João Leitão and Nuno Preguiça. He did his PhD in Nova University of Lisbon, under supervision of Henrique Domingos. His research interests include distributed systems security and privacy, with special focus on cloud computing, decentralized systems, outsourced computation, and searchable encryption.
