Energy efficiency

Since 2013, Ciências ULisboa is actively promoting an increase in the energy efficiency of its campus, for example, by promoting the progressive replacement of all lighting sources with LED technology and obsolete air-conditioning systems with new, significantly more efficient systems, or the rationalisation of heating systems using gas boilers. As a result of this type of intervention, it has been possible to achieve, on average, an energy use reduction rate of around 230MWh/year.

At the same time, part of the electric energy use has been compensated through local production using a solar photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 200kW, the largest in a higher education institution in the country, which allows the injection in the electric grid of about 580MWh/year.
