There is currently a considerable effort from the science community to study the planetary atmospheres, within and beyond our Solar System. Nevertheless, the knowledge of all mechanisms at work on Solar System planet atmospheres' is still limited. An understanding of the dominant factors and mechanisms controlling the atmospheric general circulation and its chemical composition is a prerequisite to our understanding of planets' climate variability and evolution. In this context, Solar System planets are natural comparative laboratories to investigate diversity of circulation regimes and composition of planetary atmospheres. In this seminar I will address the different temporal evolution path from Solar System planets. I will also present our research related with this topic and with the search for life on the Solar System's planets and beyond.
Short bio: Pedro Mota Machado's main activity is focused on planetary sciences, more specifically on the study of planetary atmospheres. He is guest scientist on the Japanese mission Akatsuki (JAXA), the Portuguese representative (Co-PI) on the Ariel mission, Co-PI on the EnVision mission and co-investigator on the Omega instrument science team aboard the Mars Express mission, all missions of the European Space Agency (ESA). He is a researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences and an assistant professor at the Physics Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon.
