Scientific Interests

Nature has always been a source of inspiration and focus for Science.

My research projects aim at reinforcing the scientific and economical potential of biomimetic-driven research in the portuguese and international panorama, by contributing to the development of new nature-inspired adhesives for biomedical applications.

Bioadhesion research requires a multi-disciplinary approach and thus I have combined microscopy, biomechanics, proteomics, mass spectrometry and molecular biology to pursue my goal of developing new, wet-reliable,reversible, efficient and environmentally friendly sea urchin inspired biomimetic adhesives.
