In the last decades, history of science, technology and medicine (HSTM) has underwent a deep transformation as an academic discipline. Social and cultural history has questioned the autonomy and universality of science, and has focused on concepts such as locality, contingency, practice and symmetry, among many others; the epistemological value of popular science/science popularization has been recently revisited; and more importantly: the material, visual, spatial, geographical turns have contributed to approach the city as a useful historical agent in our discipline. In my presentation, I will discuss, with some examples, why and how I think historians of science today shall progressively “urbanize” their thoughts and research questions.
