What we have learnt from jet quenching at the LHC

Sala de Seminários do LIP (com transmissão via Zoom)

Por Guilherme Milhano (IST/LIP).

The first observation of jet quenching phenomena, the suppression of the yield of energetic hadrons in nucleus-nucleus collisions relative to the proton-proton case, at RHIC at the turn of century served as a definite proof of the creation of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The systematic exploration of jet quenching physics started at earnest with the observation of enhanced momentum asymmetry in dijet pairs at the LHC. In this talk I will discuss, through a very personal viewpoint, some of the important lessons we have learnt since about the interaction of jets with QGP and about the QGP itself using jets as probes. I will also attempt to crystal ball what we could still learn within the LHC’s lifetime.
