The art of being a Sherlock: Looking for base metals in the Iberian Pyrite Belt

Por Filipa Luz (IDL).

Mineral exploration geologists can be commonly perceived as Sherlock’s. Recent revitalization of exploration surveys in the Iberian Pyrite Belt has renewed the interest in developing a systematic study of the metasedimentary successions which frequently host polymetallic massive sulphides. Detailed geochemistry analysis (whole-rock, mineral chemistry and isotope geochemistry) allows to discriminate provenances and sedimentation environments, as well as the overprint by exhalative hydrothermal activity. The refinement of metallogenic models will be a useful tool for future mineral exploration surveys in the Iberian Pyrite Belt. This presentation will focus on the PhD journey, where I assume Sherlock's role looking for base metals in the Iberian Pyrite Belt.
