Air Quality - RESPIIRA

"3 - Good Health and Well-Being", "11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities"

The project RESPIIRA - REde de sensores PIloto Inovar Ar was started in late 2018 as a result of an interdisciplinary science collaboration. It consists in providing the campus with low cost pollution sensors (noise, CO2, O3, NO2, PM2.5, NH3, temperature, humidity) for wireless communication and in points outside and inside buildings.

The exterior sensors will be installed in the same places where biomonitoring studies using lichens are already being carried out, within the scope of the General Ecology discipline offered by the Plant Biology department.

This sensor network will be mapped using geospatial tools and integrated into the Faculty’s SMARTCAMPUS. The tool will allow the acquisition of outdoor and indoor air quality data, to be used in teaching activities, research projects and science communication through the Sustainability Portal.

Int his initial phase of the project sensors are being tested in the framework of master's and doctoral theses whose results are published in https://doi.org/10.3390/en13040861 and https://doi.org/10.3390/en13071562.

Soon we will have results of a project of students of the Degree in Energy and Environment, with sensors tested in the classroom of the building C8 (indoor environment) and outdoor (near car exhaust gases, near road axis, and near entrance building C8.
