15 September 2025: Operating system update to Windows 11

Please be advised that, as of 14 October 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free updates through Windows Update, including technical support and security updates for Windows 10.

Although your devices will continue to operate after this date, we recommend that you transition to Windows 11 in order to enjoy a more modern, efficient experience that is aligned with current productivity, compliance, and information security demands, according to the information available on the Microsoft website.

This update is a fundamental step to ensure that your devices remain protected, up to date and prepared for the challenges of today's technological environment. To confirm that your equipment is ready for this update, go to the Downloads section of the Science Portal, after logging in, and install the official Microsoft programme found in the Software / Windows 11 folder

25 July 2025: Interruption of access to Microsoft Office365 and OneDrive services

The IT Services Department (DSI) informs you that it will interrupt access to Microsoft Office 365 and OneDrive services between 8 p.m. on 18 July and 8 a.m. on 21 July, in order to allow access to the Microsoft Teams videoconferencing service for the Sciences community.

Previous Announcements

In order to fulfil its duties, the IT Services Department comprises the following functional subunits:

Services and Servers Area

Responsible for managing the Data Centre and all physical infrastructure related to the hosting of computer systems (servers), including all existing service platforms.

Networks and Communications Area

Responsible for managing all data communications infrastructure, including the Datacenter data network, internal and external connectivity, Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure, and monitoring of the eduroam infrastructure.

Information Systems and Development Area

Responsible for managing Science information systems and developing and maintaining customised software.

User Support Office

Responsible for the helpdesk for the entire community and support and administration of E-Learning platforms.
