Sustainability is part of our curricula and is also one of the lines of action we apply both in day-to-day management decisions and in the development of solutions that preserve the ecosystem, the economy, and well-being. At CIÊNCIAS, we train researchers and professionals in sustainability issues and make a point of involving the academic community in various action plans. In parallel with our outreach initiatives, we constantly evaluate our activities, taking into account the rationalisation of resources, the reduction of pollutant emissions, urban biodiversity and social solidarity.

We have named this dynamic reality that we find on our campus the Living Laboratory for Sustainability Sciences ULisboa. Because we are committed to continuous improvement, we maintain initiatives such as the Ideas Competition - Sustainability on the Sciences Campus, which aims to identify new initiatives and interventions, but we also promote social actions carried out through the Ciências Solidária association. This movement towards sustainability has also paved the way for a food garden, programmes for the integration of neurodivergent people, a solar vegetable garden, a bicycle workshop, and the installation of air quality sensors, among many other initiatives.
