CIÊNCIAS has as an integral part of its mission to promote the education of its students through the practice of research and the development of a culture of lifelong learning, valuing critical thinking and intellectual autonomy. In this sense, it offers several courses, from the 1st to the 3rd cycle, which include in their programmes subjects and activities related to the theme of sustainability.

As part of its mission to promote the education of its students through research and the development of a culture of lifelong learning, valuing critical thinking and intellectual autonomy, the Faculty of Sciences offers several courses, from the 1st to the 3rd cycle, which include subjects and activities (both on and off campus) related to sustainability in their programmes. Examples of this are the curricular units and courses of:

• 1st Cycle: Sustainability, Earth, Environment and Climate; Variability and Climate Change; Environmental Impact; Environmental Biology and Conservation; Terrestrial Systems and Sustainable Development; Energy Sustainability; Gardens as Science Spaces; Science, Technology and the City; among many others.

• 2nd Cycle: Topics in Sustainability; Master's Degree in Ecology and Environmental Management (e.g., Ecosystem Services and Environmental Economics, Environmental Monitoring, Management and Conservation of Natural Resources, Global Change and Sustainability); Master's Degree in Environmental Geology, Geological Risks and Land Use Planning (e.g., Geology, Planning and Environmental Impact; Environmental Geochemistry); Master's Degree in History and Philosophy of Science (Science and the City); Master's Degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering (Renewable Energy, Energy Systems in Buildings, Solar Energy Systems, Computational Simulation of Buildings, Design of Zero Energy Balance Buildings, Sustainable Mobility), Master's Degree in Conservation Biology (e.g., Ecological Modelling); among others.
