Startups and Spinoffs

Located on the CIÊNCIAS campus, a stone's throw from one of the main transport hubs for entering and leaving Lisbon, it provides science and technology-based business incubation services, as well as laboratories and mentoring services, with costs varying according to the type of service.

It was founded in 1989, still under the name Instituto de Ciência Aplicada e Tecnologia (ICAT), and between 2012 and 2015, it was integrated into CIÊNCIAS, becoming known as TecLabs.

From 2012 to 2025, more than 120 start-ups passed through TecLabs.

- Delox – a spin-off that began to take shape at CIÊNCIAS. It develops biological decontamination tools and solutions

- R-nuucell – a start-up specialising in the development of chemotherapy treatments for aggressive cancers that spread through metastasis

- Keep it - a business specialising in the development of energy storage units that operate on the basis of hydropneumatic technology

- PETSys – one of the successful spin-offs founded on ideas that began at CIÊNCIAS, launched in 2008 with a solution that increases the resolution of diagnostic tests performed with PET technologies

- Vawlt – company specialising in the development of tools and solutions for storage, archiving and backup in cloud systems

- Science4You – brand specialising in the design and marketing of educational toys based on science and technology

- Nutrivalley – company that uses fungi to produce biodegradable materials from waste that serve as alternatives to plastics

- Phair Earth – company founded with the purpose of producing models that predict climate change decades in advance and with a level of detail that can reach up to a hundred metres
