The architecture of the R&D system at Ciências
The architecture of Ciências' R&D system, which has been reorganized following evaluation processes carried out by the FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology), but also as a result of a perceived and internally promoted need for reorganization, is complex in terms of the relationship between R&D centres and departments, and also due to the involvement of other external R&D entities.
At Ciências, research is organized into multi-departmental R&D centres, designated as centres, laboratories, and institutes.
All of the Faculty's R&D centres have been funded by the FCT. Some R&D centres currently integrate associated laboratories, and others are connected to R&D centres of other higher education institutions.
