In 2026, the University of Lisbon will hold the 4th edition of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, inviting doctoral students to show, in just three minutes and with a single slide, to a non-specialist audience, why their research matters.
The initiative, which has the prestigious support of FLAD (Luso-American Development Foundation), aims to train key communication skills, share Science in a clear way, and bring together different fields of knowledge within ULisboa.
The finalists receive certificates of merit and prizes of €5,000, €2,000 and €1,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.

The final of the Competition will take place at the Pavilhão de Portugal. The presentations will be voted on by a jury made up of specialists from various fields of the Schools of the University of Lisbon and Science Communication, from which the three winners of the Competition will emerge. The event counts with the newspaper Público as its media partner, which will broadcast the event on its YouTube channel.
