Applications for the EVM 2026 Mathematics Internship Programme

Following the success of the EVM 2024 and EVM 2025 editions, the Mathematics Internship Programme, organised by the Department of Mathematical Sciences of CIÊNCIAS, returns for its third edition.

The Summer Mathematics Internships – EVM 2026 will take place from 14 to 24 July 2026 and are aimed at students from across the country who are in their second or third year of an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Physics or related subjects.

The internships will provide a valuable experience for personal and professional development, broadening horizons and offering a glimpse into the academic life of a postgraduate student in Mathematics.

Applications are open until 30 May.

The atmosphere at the EVM 2026:

  • Project Work: each intern works on a project under the daily supervision of a mentor, and has access to a room at the DCM where they can discuss their progress with other interns.

  • Seminars: researchers and PhD students will speak on current topics in mathematical research being pursued within the Department of Mathematical Sciences of CIÊNCIAS.

  • Communicating Mathematics: over the course of these days, there will be two informal sessions for interns to discuss their projects – EVM 2026 concludes with a public presentation of the work carried out in each project and the awarding of Certificates of Participation.

  • Social gathering: on the afternoons of seminars and presentations, there will be opportunities for relaxation over refreshments.
