Communication and Image Unit

Mission

The Communication and Image Department is responsible for ensuring internal and external communication at the Faculty, promoting its image, reinforcing its institutional identity and publicising its activities to society, in coordination with departments, research centres and partners.

Marketing Department
Academic

The Academic Marketing Area is responsible for promoting the image and disseminating information about ULisboa's educational offerings and activities to school audiences, both nationally and internationally.

The journey to higher education is complex and involves several stages of research, evaluation and emotional involvement. For applicants and their families, choosing an educational institution is a decision that balances academic aspirations, career goals, entry requirements and personal preferences.

What we do

  • Organising visits to secondary schools

  • Participating in national and international education fairs

  • Holding information sessions and themed workshops

  • Distributing physical and digital promotional materials

  • Following up on contacts made after events with school principals and parents

Science Communication Office

The Science Communication Office's mission is to bring science closer to society by promoting public understanding of the research carried out at the Faculty.

We work to bring science closer to different groups in society through public engagement initiatives. We maintain close links with science communicators from research units and scientific dissemination partners.

  • Development of public engagement initiatives based on scientific research

  • Establishment of partnerships with scientific dissemination institutions and agents

  • Support for the science communicators community

  • Planning and execution of scientific events

  • Training and capacity building for researchers in communication with the public

  • Promotion of scientific literacy in schools and educational communities

Information Management Office

The Information Management Office's mission is to ensure the effective collection, organisation, analysis and dissemination of institutional, academic and scientific information from the Faculty of Sciences of ULisboa.

The Office is also responsible for collecting, organising and sending institutional information. It ensures that content is updated and made available in a structured manner, in coordination with the different units of the Faculty.

Image and Digital Content Office

The Image and Digital Content Office is responsible for the Faculty's digital presence, design and creativity of CIÊNCIAS' visual identity.

We develop marketing and communication materials for print and digital channels. We are responsible for managing the Faculty's institutional image, including visual and photographic resources, and we collaborate in the production of the institution's strategic publications.

Press Office

The Press Office is responsible for promoting the image of Ciências ULisboa, liaising with the media, providing press relations services and publicising events, discoveries and happenings of scientific relevance.

The news and media team is composed of communication, science journalism and science communication professionals who promote the work of CIÊNCIAS, as well as the discoveries of its researchers.

  • Writing and disseminating press releases

  • Managing requests from journalists and assisting in the preparation of interviews

  • Producing articles and content for the institutional website and digital platforms

  • Promotion of research and researchers to national and international media

  • Collaboration with departments and research centres in identifying newsworthy stories

  • Monitoring of media coverage and impact analysis

  • Organisation of scientific events and press conferences

Recommendations for researchers
in their relations with the media

  • Contact the Press Office before promoting the dissemination of topics, projects, and initiatives

  • Contact or, at least, notify the Communication and Image Service when the media requests information, comments, or opinions

  • Reject leaks of confidential information or information protected by privacy legislation

  • Refuse comments that are not within the respective area of expertise

Charter of Principles

  • Respect for freedom of the press

  • Privacy and non-disclosure of requests, orders and operational or ancillary data from journalists and content producers

  • Respect for the application of the journalist's code of ethics, press law or author's code in relations with accredited professionals

  • Non-discrimination of professionals or media outlets based on editorial orientation, ideology, subject specialisation, news history, geographical or cultural origin, or personal differences and sympathies

  • Whenever operational contingencies or previously established institutional communication strategies are not involved, institutional responses, reports and other media work follow the order of arrival, regardless of the media outlet or professional

  • CIÊNCIAS follows humanistic principles of non-discrimination based on ideology, editorial stance, religious beliefs, ethnic and geographical origin, or sexual orientation

  • Defence of scientific freedom, without losing sight of educational purposes, the well-being and preservation of the community and the ecosystem
