Cultural Groups and Associations

Founded during the time of the old Polytechnic School, the Students' Association of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon is today the main body responsible for the representation and participation of Ciências students in academic matters, as well as in national and international university championships and competitions. It also maintains a close relationship with the CIÊNCIAS Tuna (student music group), in addition to organizing various social and cultural activities.

Created by the Ciências employees, it operates three bars and cafeterias on campus, as well as a gym with equipment for various exercises, and Pilates classes led by a specialist. It offers discounts on shows, sporting events, and health services.

Formed in 2013, it brings together professionals from different schools and units of the University of Lisbon around a passion for theatre. The staging is provided by a professional, but participation does not require talent or experience. In addition to acting, the group also handles tasks related to props, scripts, sets, sound design, and publicity.

Formed in 1994, Vicentuna is a constant presence at official and cultural events and acts as a faithful representative of Ciências. The ensemble has varied between 15 and 30 members, although there is no maximum or minimum number of participants. Their repertoire includes original compositions, adaptations of traditional or popular Portuguese songs, and songs that are already part of the student songbook. No musical knowledge is required, and lessons are available on different instruments. Participation is free, although travel costs may apply for events outside Lisbon.

A group of students whose main theme is literature. In addition to reading sessions, they organize and support debates and lectures, commemorate important dates in the country's political and social history, and share interviews disseminated on social media. It functions as one of the bridges between the CIÊNCIAS and the humanities.

known as C.ao.Cubo, the CIÊNCIAS CineClube regularly organizes film screenings for the academic community, free of charge. Typically, the sessions are free and take place on the Faculty's premises. Films can be chosen by the community or by the CIÊNCIAS CineClube organization.

This project, launched by students and supported by the CIÊNCIAS, revolves around a 3000 m2 garden on campus that began to take shape after 2009. The space closely follows permaculture principles and is maintained with the contribution of "guardians." Training and volunteer activities, debates, and community initiatives are also part of the range of activities.

This group was launched to meet the needs of the academic community with training in the field of drawing and illustration. It attempts to combine academic schedules with outreach sessions and, whenever possible, organizes free classes for those who want to learn the basics.

A group of students that promotes certified diving courses that can be useful both for those studying ocean-related topics and for those who simply want to try a new hobby. As a rule, diving courses are offered to CIÊNCIAS students at more affordable costs. Underwater activities tend to be concentrated on weekends.

This group was founded to further the interests of those who study nature, as well as those who simply wish to explore the fascinating world of birds. Lectures with professionals, field trips, courses, and educational programs are among the activities offered by the group.

A group focused on training and disseminating activities related to sustainability and other environmental issues. In addition to participating in ecological initiatives, it also contributes to charitable programs for underprivileged individuals and families.

This group, focused on topics related to sexuality and gender, aims to encourage the integration of people with different sexual orientations into the academic community. In addition to awareness campaigns and social events, it organizes film screenings and facilitates the analysis and exchange of impressions and reviews of books.

A group of students that tries to facilitate the integration of those who have just arrived in the biology course. In addition to tips on study tools, access, meals and academic activities, they also participate in charitable initiatives.

A group that brings together students from different courses and fields of knowledge, sharing a common thread: spirituality and the Catholic faith. Activities include masses, pilgrimages, biographies of saints, and other activities related to the Christian religion.

It includes various activities to integrate students into the Faculty, but it also keeps in mind competitions with virtual or board games, alongside training and events related to informatics.

Aimed at facilitating student integration and promoting curricular activities, it also includes debates and the dissemination of topics related to the Geophysical Sciences curriculum.

It develops mentoring programs and support guides for newly arrived students, organizes contests and events dedicated to fostering camaraderie, and even provides lectures and connections for the labour world.
