CiclOficina of FCUL

SDGs 11 and 12

What´s cicloficina of FCUL?

It's a mutual aid project for repairing, tuning, and clarifying doubts about everything related to bicycles. The CiclOficina of FCUL also serves to publicize and promote the use of this means of transport.

When was the CiclOficina of FCUL created?

The CiclOficina of FCUL was created at the end of 2014 as a result of the challenge from the CiclOficina Anjos. For 9 years it offered bicycle repair sessions in the C5 bicycle park and in its room in C3.

Objective

The CiclOficina of FCUL objective is to promote and disseminate the bicycle as a means of urban transport, contributing to a more sustainable experience at the university and in the city, by reducing traffic and pollution.

This goal is achieved by providing assistance to CiclOficina users through free support in bicycle repair and maintenance, centred on the "do it yourself" principle. This means involving bicycle users in repairing their bikes, allowing for progressive learning and encouraging the sharing of acquired skills while promoting cyclist autonomy.

Thus, it contributes to the retraining of individuals, also enhancing their perception of their ability to intervene in society.

The CiclOficina of FCUL is for everyone who wants to participate: students, staff, researchers, and professors, and is also open to supporting the rest of civil society.

This initiative has been present on the FCUL campus since 2014, a result of synergy with the Cicloficina dos Anjos.

Who can participate in the cicloficina of FCUL?

Everyone, whether students, researchers, professors, or staff of FCUL, but also anyone from outside the faculty.

Who will fix/tune my bicycle?

YOU will fix/tune your bicycle! For this, you will have the help of other participants and members of the CiclOficina of FCUL. The level of mechanical knowledge varies among the members, and the goal is for everyone to learn from each other.

Operation

The CiclOficina of FCUL typically meets weekly in its space on the 1st floor of building C3, operating on an informal basis in an attempt to find solutions to user needs.

The cycling workshop does not have its own budget, basing its operation on volunteer work, voluntary donations from users, and the sharing of materials through a network with other cycling workshops.

How much do repairs cost at the CiclOficina of FCUL?

Repairs at the CiclOficina of FCUL are free, as it doesn't provide services. However, since the bike shop doesn't keep a stock of materials, you will have to purchase the necessary components for repairs. Donations are welcome, though.

Do we need to bring tools to the CiclOficina of FCUL?

The CiclOficina of FCUL has a basic set of tools necessary for all minor bicycle maintenance/repairs.

How can I contribute to the CiclOficina FCUL?

Whether you have mechanical knowledge or not, you can always contribute, either by promoting the CiclOficina FCUL or by suggesting ways to encourage bicycle use. If you do have mechanical knowledge, even better!
