ULisboa Three Minute Thesis competition

Registration is officially open for the 4th edition of the ULisboa Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT), a unique challenge for doctoral students at the University of Lisbon: to explain, clearly, creatively, and accessibly, the impact of their research to a non-specialized audience—in just 3 minutes and with a single slide!

What's at stake?

In addition to developing a skill that is increasingly valued in the academic and professional world—scientific communication—there are also significant cash prizes for the top three finishers:

  • 🥇 1st place: 5.000 €

  • 🥈 2nd place: 2.000 €

  • 🥉 3rd place: 1.000 €

All candidates for the competition will have access to the Scientific Communication Course and a certificate of participation, while finalists and winners will also receive diplomas of merit.

A tradition of success at CIÊNCIAS

The Ciências ULisboa has been present at all previous editions:

🎙 2023 — Patrícia Chaves (CE3C) conquered the 2nd place.

🎙 2024 — Ciências was the most represented school in the final, with four doctoral students as finalists, and Nuno Gonçalves (Instituto de astrofísica e ciências do espaço -Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences) once again achieved 2nd place.

🎙 2025 — Rita Eusébio and Joel Laia (CE3C) represented our community in an exciting final, presented by Nuno Gonçalves.

This journey demonstrates not only the talent of our doctoral students, but also the strength of our diverse scientific fields.
