Filipe Duarte Santos distinguished during the National Sustainability Award of Jornal de Negócios

Filipe Duarte Santos, president of the National Councils for Sustainable Development (CNADS) and retired professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Ciências ULisboa), was awarded one of the categories of the National Sustainability Award, that the Jornal de Negócios has been promoting with the aim of recognizing people and initiatives that have contributed more with best practices in favor of quality of life and environment. Filipe Duarte Santos received the distinction regarding the Personality Award for the work done "in building a public awareness about the impacts of climate change, the need for adaptation policies and the urgency of integrating sustainability into economic decisions", refers to Jornal de Negócios.

The Personality Award is one of the distinctions granted within the scope of the National Sustainability Award. The personality distinguished in this category is chosen by a jury and without appeal.

The Jornal de Negócios highlights, in its "About Filipe Duarte Santos" section, his "academic and scientific career" that "crosses different areas of knowledge, from physics to geophysics, from global changes to sustainable development policies".

With a degree in Geophysics from the University of Lisbon and a doctorate in Nuclear Physics from the University of London, Filipe Duarte Santos joined Ciências ULisboa in 1979. He was vice-president of the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and director of the Nuclear Physics Centre at the University of Lisbon. He participated in the review of the 5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

He is a constant presence in forums on sustainability and the environment, and is a member of the Portuguese Physical Society, the European Physical Society, and the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon.
