The Joker competitiont, from RTP, featured the “special participation” of the generative language model Evaristo.ai in the most recent episode on Tuesday. This unprecedented moment in the media life of this Artificial Intelligence agent, developed by researchers from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Ciências ULisboa), occurred during the broadcast of the popular general knowledge programme presented by Vasco Palmeirim, as one of the four possible answers to a question posed to one of the contestants.
It was around 46:30 minutes that Evaristo.ai burst onto the broadcast to surprise the contestant with the question: “What is the name of the ‘chatbot’ launched, in 2025, by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon?” As always, the question was followed by the presentation of four possible answers: “Anastácio.ai”, “Filipinho.ai”, “Vasquinho.ai”, and also “Evaristo.ai”.
The contestant went for the answer “Anastácio.ai”, which ultimately brought their participation in Joker to an end. After the wrong answer was selected, Vasco Palmeirim explained that the AI model was launched by the Speech and Natural Language Group of Ciências ULisboa in June 2025 with free and open access – but there was little left to be done. Evaristo.ai was the correct answer.
