The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CIÊNCIAS ULisboa) filled 98.58% of the available places in the 1st phase of the National Access Competition (CNA) to higher education. Of the 917 places offered across the Faculty’s 17 undergraduate programmes, 904 were taken in this first phase, 188 more students than last year. This result reflects a significant increase in the number of new students placed at the Faculty and reinforces the strong demand for its educational offer.

The results confirm the high demand for CIÊNCIAS ULisboa’s programmes, with several degrees recording high minimum entry grades (NMS). Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics registered the highest NMS, with 156.0 points, followed by Biology, with 155.5 points, and Applied Mathematics, with 153.3 points. The Data Science degree, which launched its first edition this year, also recorded an NMS of 148.5 points.

Another indicator that highlights the demand for CIÊNCIAS ULisboa’s educational offer is the Demand Satisfaction Index, which relates the number of applicants who selected each degree as their first choice to the number of available places. At the Faculty, this index has an average value of 1.0, meaning that, overall, the educational offer is able to meet the number of applicants who choose CIÊNCIAS ULisboa’s programmes as their first option.

Among the programmes with the highest indices are Technological Chemistry (2.2) and Biology (2.1). In the case of Technological Chemistry, the index places the degree among the 10 programmes with the highest demand satisfaction across the entire University of Lisbon.

The diversity of CIÊNCIAS ULisboa’s educational offer allows students to pursue studies across different scientific and technological fields, through 17 undergraduate degrees covering areas such as Biology, Biochemistry, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Geology, Mathematics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Geophysics, Chemistry and Information Technologies.

Students placed at CIÊNCIAS ULisboa can consult all information regarding the enrolment process and learn all the details about the Welcome Session for New Students 2026, which will take place on 14 September. The session will be an opportunity to get to know the Faculty, clarify any questions and take the first steps in their new academic life at CIÊNCIAS ULisboa.
