The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Ciências ULisboa) distinguished, last Wednesday, 31 students with Academic Merit Awards during Ciências Day. In addition to these distinctions, 142 Academic Merit Certificates were distributed. Both Awards and Certificates recognise undergraduate students who achieved the best performances in the 2024/2025 academic year. At the ceremony, which took place during the celebration of the 115th anniversary of Ciências ULisboa, there was also time for awards delivered to doctoral theses by the FCiências.ID association and awards for different levels of education, in partnership with well-known brands.

First-year undergraduate students who received the Academic Merit Awards

Third-year undergraduate students during the presentation of the Academic Merit Awards
On the list for the third year of the undergraduate degree, the following were awarded the Merit Recognition Awards: Roy Assam Lowe, from the Bachelor's degree en Mathematics; Tiago Cardoso Silva, from the Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics; Tamára Sobreira Rodrigues, from the Bachelor's degree in Geology; João Afonso Gaspar, from the Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics; Rodrigo Nogueira Moreira, from the Bachelors's degree in Informatics Engineering; Alice Figueiredo Rodrigues, from the Bachelor's degree in Biology; Bernardo Ribeiro Marques, from the Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics.
In addition to the Academic Merit Awards, Ciências ULisboa distinguished 77 students from various courses and years of undergraduate study with Academic Merit Certificate. The final list of students eligible for both types of distinctions relating to performances recorded in the 2024/2025 academic year is now available for consultation.

FCiências.ID awards ceremony for doctoral students
The FCiências.ID awards, which distinguish doctoral theses of "proven excellence", were presented to Pedro Simões Ruas, in the area of Computer Science and Engineering; João António Careto in the area of Earth Sciences; Eve Alexandra Otjacques, in the area of Life Sciences; Ana Catarina Carvalho da Rocha in the domain of Chemical Sciences and Technologies; and Sima Krtalic in the area of History and Philosophy of Sciences.

One of the students awarded the Sports Merit Scholarship, among AEFCL leaders
The Sports Merit Scholarships were awarded to Manuel Martinho, Five-time National University Taekwondo Champion and current European University Vice-Champion, and Tiago Barreiros, current National University Judo Champion.

Students distinguished with Caixa Geral de Depósitos Awards
In parallel with the distinctions awarded by Ciências ULisboa, last Wednesday’s Sciences Day also introduced the students who received awards in partnership with various brands from different sectors. And it was in this group of awards that Vicente Alves Read, from the BSc in Applied Mathematics, and Ruy Manuel Domingos, from the Master's degree in Biochemistry and Biomedicine, received the Caixa Geral de Depósitos awards, which recognise the graduates with the best performance in the first and second cycles of education in 2024/2025.

Students distinguished with Doutor Finanças Awards
Bruno Luís Antunes Faustino and Vicente Alves Read received the Doutor Finanças Awards, which recognise the best graduates from the BScs in Applied Mathematics and Computer Engineering.

Esri Portugal Award Ceremony
The Esri Portugal Award, delivered for the best performance in the discipline of Geological Information Systems, was presented to Diogo Guerreiro Gomes.

The student honoured with the Jacqueline Dias de Sousa Foundation Award
The Fundação Jacqueline Dias de Sousa Award was awarded to Tiago André Silva, for being the graduate with the best performance in the Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.

Students distinguished with Maxdata Awards
The Maxdata Awards distinguished Pedro Reinaldo Mendes, João Filipe Ferreira Rodrigues and Bruno Antunes Faustino, from the first, second and third years of the Bachelors's degree in Informatics Engineering.
In the Bachelor's degree in Information Tecnology, the Maxdata awards were awarded to Viviana dos Santos Pinheiro Lourenço, Miguel Ferro Fernandes and Mariana Aivado de Carvalhal da Silva.
In the Master’s degrees, the Maxdata Award was awarded to Daniel Neves Machado de Matos João, for his performance in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology; Lloyd Anthony Dsilva, from the Master’s in Data Science; Diogo Paulo Pereira da Silva, from the Master’s in Informatics Engineering; Pedro Miguel de Azevedo Costa, from the Master’s in Informatics; Henrique Murta Marques, from the Master’s in Information Security (tie); and Henrique Manuel Moutinho Alípio, from the Master’s in Master’s in Information Security(tie).
In the doctoral category, the Maxdata award distinguished Joel Samper Marba.

The distinguished by the Accenture Awards
During the ceremony, the Accenture awards for the best candidates for the master's degrees in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Computer Engineering and Informatics were also announced. Tiago Miguel Moura Teixeira, Bruno Luís Antunes Faustino and Letícia da Silva Catita Charola Luís were recognised with this award.
