Abstract: The transformation of CO from an exhaust gas to stable carbonate minerals is straightforward in computer simulations and in the laboratory, but the successful mineral storage of CO2 in the subsurface and its validation at a significant scale requires intimate knowlege of injection techniques, subsurface hydrology and monitoring strategies. Here l'll present the highlights of our work with the CarbFix1, CarbFix2, Jizan, and Tiblisi subsurface mineral carbon demonstration projects highlighting the challenges to upscaling this approach to a widely adopted industrial solution.
