The Complexity as a Kaleidoscope 2026 workshop, organized by Lasige, will be held from 30 Juy until 1 August 2026 at Ciências ULisboa.
For this workshop, we are trying to do something a little different. Normally speakers talk about their own work, and related work. Instead, we are aiming for something more in the spirit of the Bourbaki seminar: instead of the speakers talking about their own work, they will be paying homage to other people’s work.
As co-organizers of the workshop, we share a (somewhat speculative) intuition that this will lead to wonderful talks and promote a happy, friendly atmosphere.
Having chosen a paper or collection of works among their favorites, the purpose of the talk would be for the speaker to share why they like it, to give the audience some flavor of what it’s like to think about the topic (which should definitely include going over some of the proofs), and also perhaps to say something about the work’s history, context, etc.
Other activities will include:
miniature versions of this (workshop attendants have 5m to talk about someone else’s paper that they really like, and why)
a favorite-open-problem session, (participants will be asked to prepare beforehand)
and perhaps an outing.
