The next edition of Alumnights ULisboa will be hosted by the Faculty of Sciences, as part of its 115th-anniversary celebrations.
This event brings together alumni, students, lecturers and researchers for a chance to reconnect and share experiences, celebrating the journeys that began at the Faculty and now span multiple fields of science, innovation and society.
More than just a shared starting point, Ciências ULisboa has, over the decades, been a space where fundamental knowledge is transformed into the ability to understand, anticipate and respond to the great challenges of our time.
Between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm, the event will take place in an open format, encouraging informal interaction between generations and the sharing of experiences. Throughout this period, there will be continuous opportunities for participation, notably the Alumni Flash Talks – Pathways from Ciências, where former students share, in brief talks, their career paths, the impact of their education and how they envisage their future connection to the Faculty.
The venue will also host student groups and companies with strong links to the Ciências ULisboa, reflecting the diversity of career paths that originate from the Faculty and their continuation within the scientific, technological and business communities. During this time, there will be a social gathering with a buffet-style catering service, fostering an atmosphere conducive to meeting and networking.
From 8.00 pm, the main part of the session will take place, featuring the discussion:
“The End of the World: Ciências ULisboa in the anticipation and mitigation of major global risks”
This interdisciplinary panel will bring together researchers, innovators and practitioners working on the field to discuss the role of science in anticipating and addressing some of the key challenges facing contemporary society, with a particular focus on the Portuguese context. Scenarios such as earthquakes, urban flooding, heatwaves, wildfires, rising sea levels and the growing dependence on artificial intelligence-based systems will be discussed, exploring their impact on infrastructure, the environment and people’s lives.
The session will conclude with a farewell performance by Vicentuna, bringing this event to a symbolic close and celebrating the spirit of community that spans generations at Ciências ULisboa.
Join us to celebrate science, our journeys and the future.
