6th Luso-Brazilian Congress on the History of Tropical Medicine

The 6th Luso-Brazilian Congress on the History of Tropical Medicine will take place in a hybrid format at the Federal University of Goiás, allowing for both in-person and online participation, from 27 to 31 July 2026.

The main theme is Ecologies and Inequalities in the History of Tropical Medicine, broadening the debate on neglected tropical diseases, healthcare institutions and socio-environmental determinants.

The conference, organized in partnership with the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz/Fiocruz, is co-presided by Isabel Amaral, researcher at Interuniversity Centre for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT) with Monique Palma serving as vice-president of the conference and Davide Scarso as a member of the honorary committee.

Participation in the congress is free of charge.

We are accepting proposals for individual papers or panel discussions (three to five participants), lasting approximately 20 minutes per presenter, in Portuguese, Spanish or English. Submission deadline: 30 April 2026.

Schedule:

  • Submission of papers (free communications and panels: until 30/04/2026;

  • Publication of assessment results (Scientific Committee): until 25/05/2026;

  • Promotion of the programme: until 30/06/2026;
