Internships

One of the main objectives of the Employability Office is to promote the employability and better professional integration of students and graduates of CIÊNCIAS. This integration into the labour market can initially be achieved through an internship.

Internships may be part of the curriculum or extracurricular.

Curricular internships

Curricular internships are part of the student’s course curriculum and therefore require supervision and assessment by a professor from the department to which the student belongs.

Due to their specific nature, these work placements are directly planned, monitored and assessed by the relevant department to which the student belongs, and this involves the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding between the three parties involved: the student, the department responsible for the academic field, and the host company.

Therefore, for information on the procedure for our students to undertake these work placements, organisations should first contact the relevant departments.

The External Relations Area (ARE) of the Faculty of Sciences provides administrative support: it supplies the draft documents to the professor responsible for the course module and answers any questions put to it regarding the documents and procedures to be followed. ARE receives the documents once they have been signed by the representative(s) of the external organisation, the student and the professor in charge, obtains the signature of the Faculty Dean, and returns a hard copy or PDF copy to the signatories.

For further information about these internships, please contact the External Relations Area at internacional@ciencias.ulisboa.pt.

Extracurricular internships

Extracurricular internships are not part of a study programme and may take place at any stage of the degree or after its conclusion. These internships may be organised on the initiative of the student, companies or other institutions.

In accordance with the legislation, Decree-Law 66/2011 of 1 June, an extracurricular internship is practical training in a work setting, the purpose of which is to supplement and enhance the skills that interns acquire during their training.

For further information about these internships, please contact the Emplyability Office at emprego@ciencias.ulisboa.pt.
